Return to Florence

In September, Galleria Walter Padovani will take part in BIAF – Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato di Firenze  (Stand 9) with a curated selection of works conceived as a tribute to the city.

The display opens with the monumental marble portrait of Cosimo III de’ Medici, sculpted by Lorenzo Merlini in 1694, an extraordinary synthesis of classical memory, modern portraiture, and the celebration of power.

Alongside this masterpiece, Charity by Lorenzo Bartolini — a reduced-scale version of the celebrated group preserved at Palazzo Pitti — is a refined expression of the sculptor’s ideal of natural beauty.

The selection is completed by three Landscapes in commesso di pietre dure (Florentine hardstone mosaic), showcasing one of Florence’s most distinctive artistic traditions, where technical virtuosity and the observation of nature merge into images of remarkable intensity.

More than a selection of artworks, it is a narrative dedicated to Florence: its history, its protagonists, and its artistic heritage.
