Two French cabinets with ten drawers each. Simple

Two French cabinets with ten drawers each. Simple and linear, their purpose is more functional than decorative: indeed, they contain within them the richness of the Terraqueous Orb.
Within one cabinet, there is a collection showcasing the wonders of the Earth: marbles, breccias, alabasters, paesina stones, hard stones, silicified woods, that enchant with their variety of colors, designs, degrees of hardness, and transparency.
The other tells the story of the Sea, with shells, fossils, shark teeth, and corals.
These two cabinets are part of the naturalia collecting tradition. Dating back to the late 18th, early 19th century, they testify to the desire to organize knowledge, to bring order to chaos: containers whose purpose is to overcome the dichotomy between disorder and order, they also represent the possibility of infinite journeys through space and time, with just a simple gesture like opening a drawer 🪸🦪
Due cabinet francesi a dieci cassetti. Semplici e lineari, il loro scopo è più funzionale che decorativo: infatti contengono al loro interno la ricchezza dell’orbe terracqueo. All’interno di un cabinet vi è una collezione che racconta le meraviglie della terra: marmi, brecce, alabastri, pietre paesine, pietre dure, legni silicizzati che incantano per la varietà di colori, disegni, gradi di durezza e trasparenza.
L’altra racconta il mare, con le conchiglie, fossili, denti di squalo e coralli.
I due cabinet fanno parte del collezionismo di naturalia. Risalenti alla fine del XVIII, inizi del XIX secolo, sono la testimonianza della volontà di creare una organizzazione della conoscenza, di dare un possibile ordine al caos: contenitori il cui scopo è quello di superare la dicotomia tra disordine e ordine, ma anche espressione della possibilità di infiniti viaggi nello spazio e nel tempo, attraverso un semplice gesto come quello di aprire un cassetto 🪸🦪
